20 Mar Figure, Fabric and AOH
Supporting an art practice involves a lot of application writing so I haven’t had time to paint for a while. I really enjoyed painting this ‘Silk Knot’ yesterday and I’ve already sold it.

In seeking funding opportunities I’ve decided to follow the ‘learning edge’ from where I am. So for now I will put the Lavinia Fontana project on the back burner, concentrating again on figure and fabric and going deeper into it. I’m enjoying planning a programme of research starting with the National Portrait Gallery, the V&A and fashion archives, along with some mentoring.
Particularly relevant is this exhibition. I can’t wait to see it: Sargent and Fashion, at Tate Britain.

I’ll be opening up our house for the Artists Open Houses this May, so please put our dates in your diary (see dates below). I’ll be selling paintings, drawings and prints. Lisa Jansen is also showing some beautiful textile art here, inspired by the gardens at Great Dixter.
The very first Artists Open Houses in Brighton were not in the city centre but on the hill up to Fiveways. The painter Ned Hoskins opened his studio for the first time in 1982 and was quickly followed by friends and acquaintances in the next few years. It has become a Brighton institution now and I’m sure part of the attraction is the opportunity to have a look inside artists houses as well as looking at their work.
Studio Two is the name of our venue at: 2 Park Crescent, BN2 3HA.
The online listing isn’t live yet, I’ll let you know when it is. Here’s our introduction:
You are warmly invited to Fiona Geilinger’s elegant artist’s studio and living room, opened for the first time, as contrasting spaces in which to see her contemporary figurative paintings. 2023 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition exhibitor.
