This is a selection of works made since moving to painting as my primary medium in 2020. If you are interested in buying any of these works there is a selection in my online shop or you can get in touch and I will let you know if they are available.

RECENT

Since 2024 I have been studying at the Essential School of Painting with tutors Rosanna Dean and Guy Allott, working in oils and at a much larger scale. The bigger movements required to explain the contours of figure and cloth are suiting my body as well as my work. I am excited by techniques I am learning, including glazing, as used by old masters such as Rembrandt, creating colour and depth by the application of oil paint in very thin layers. I am also learning more about the subtleties of light, shade and colour temperature, allowing me to create much more sophisticated palettes. I am working towards an end of year show and am planning how to continue this learning in the next academic year.

2022 – 2024

In 2022 I began a series of tightly cropped pictures of models in shirts, indulging in the qualities and movement of cloth, as it enfolds the abstracted figure. This theme has continued ever since, expanding to embrace shoes and dresses and allowing me to progress my exploration of figure and fabric.

2020 – 2022

My early works focused on the figure in the landscape, using acrylics on paper. I then started painting on wooden panels, combining the figure, architectural space and pattern. The latter was the continuation of a theme from my film making days, when I made pattern-based short films using the moving body. I separated the performers from their backgrounds using motion graphics, superimposing moving patterns onto them, or ‘weaving’ the performers movement trajectories into moving human fabrics.
